Welcome back Mike Jarvis. For the past 4 years Jarvis was out of coaching because of some serious things that happened while he was the head coach at St. John's under his watch. But as we should in society, and always allow, is second chances. Jarvis is on his last coaching job and now will lead FAU's basketball team for the future. Jarvis much like former FAU and North Carolina coach Matt Doherty used to say, has seen the mountain top and sometimes the view isn't so great. Jarvis has coached at Boston University, George Washington and then St. John's where he led the Red Storm to the Elite 8 back in 2000 with a guy named Ron Artest.
Now, Jarvis is back to where there is probably no chance for him to win a National Championship, or even make the Elite 8. For FAU just getting to the NCAA's will be an accomplishment in itself. If they were to even win a game in the tourney, that would be a feat. But Jarvis is a coach, and a teacher. He's ready to build the FAU program and stay here for the rest of his career. Things have come full circle for Jarvis. He's coaching in front of crowds, that will be about 1,000 people, as opposed to the 20,000 he would get when he coached in the Garden with St. John's. But at 63 Jarvis is happy and content to be where he is. He loves Boca Raton, and has made plenty of friends here too. Here's one friend hoping he succeeds and gives us something to get excited about at FAU. Good luck Mike.
