Nobody told Steve Spurrier it was going to be this hard. He didn't realize how easy he had it at his alma mater. Winning a National Championship in 1996 with the Florida Gators, and countless SEC Titles to go along with building one of the best programs in the country. However, Spurrier needed a new challenge, and he's gotten one now.
He failed as a NFL coach, leading the Washington Redskins to just a 7-9 and 5-11 record, and now he has the task of trying to turn the University of South Carolina into an SEC title contender. Lou Holtz couldn't do it, and he was known as a guy who turned every program around. Holtz did win for the most part but not like he did at Notre Dame. Spurrier has come in and hasn't had a losing season yet in Columbia, but now in his fourth season, Spurrier has still not delivered on on that title, and it makes me wonder why nobody can ultimately win at South Carolina? It has just as good facilities as UF, Georgia or UT, but yet they haven't been able to bring in the same talent as those other three schools.
However, here's thinking Spurrier will get at least one title under his belt before he sails off into the sunset of Columbia and calls it a career. If he doesn't well, there's always the memories of Florida. Right?
