Too much Fay coverage, or not enough?

What do you think?  Tropical Storm Fay is slowly inching its way out of our television viewing area.  Was the television coverage from WPTV Newschannel 5 too much, not enough or just right?

Fay had a minimal effect on Palm Beach County, outside of the tornado damage in Wellington and a canceled school day.  The effects on the Treasure Coast, however, were much greater.

Take a look at some of the hundreds of photos sent in by WPTV.com users:

Click here for the user galleries.

As the storm moved north throughout Tuesday, the water level in the photos got progressively higher.  Now, Treasure Coast residents are still figuring out how to get out of their driveways and neighborhoods.

Throughout the course of our on-air coverage, we received several emails regarding our coverage.  About half were thanking us for breaking in to the Olympics with updates on Fay and its effects on the area.  The other half were very upset that their Olympic viewing was being interrupted by "rain with a name".

So what do you think?  How much is too much coverage?  Please comment below and let us know where you live, because that may or may not have something to do with your answer.

I welcome all the coverage!  We just moved to the Fort Pierce area this summer from Royal Palm Beach, and have been without a tv (in storage) for the last month. The newscasts, info., that were featured on your web-site, along with the doppler radar feature, were the only source of weather information that we had. The radio coverage, here, didn't seem to help us, when we needed immediate info.  Although, I can't speak for the interruptions to the Olympic coverage.. I feel certain that I would have definately wanted the weather updates. It was scary weather, here! Maybe, the viewers that weren't so happy, didn't find themselves in the same situation as us Treasure Coast viewers. I appreciate all the coverage. By the way, Fort Pierce is still getting rain this evening..

I appreciated the wonderful coverage.  I only wish we had heard a little more about the Treasure Coast, specifically Sebastian.  We had very strong winds since the morning hours and it poured constantly the whole two days.  The flooding is incredible in many streets here in Sebastian.  We hardly get any coverage and don't know what is going on around town or what was closed or open.  We finally found a channel that would transmit bulletins and updates and then would repeat them over and over.  At 10:30 pm they were still transmitting their 7:30 pm update.  We are in your viewing area and for the last 11 years I have watched all your morning and evening news coverage.  You guys do a fantastic and high quality job.  I just want to hear more news about Sebastian and Vero Beach in your coverage.  Thanks!

I would have liked more information about what was actually happening on the Treasure Coast during the storm.  I saw so much of the same pictures about the horse barns at Wellington that I wondered why there was little or no coverage of the downpour happening in coastal Port St. Lucie.  It started raining lightly, with squalls later, at 3 PM on MONDAY.  It never stopped over night.  Then, it started torrential rains early Tuesday morning, and yet, the weather people on WPTV did not mention the rate of rain or the constancy of that rain on the Treasure Coast.  It poured and poured and poured all day Tuesday and into the night Tuesday.  Come Wednesday morning, two lakes behind me became one and the road between was lost.  And still I did not hear about my area until some time later in the morning.  I feel disappointed that I felt on my own related to what was happening right outside my door.  Thank God we were spared flooding in our home.  I sent two pictures for posting; but, they are no where to be seen on the user gallerys.  I saw a plastic chair which someone sent in that was blown around; but, don't see the picture of a car in my pond which I sent.

The coverage was just about right.  I am in Martin County and found your coverage very helpful before, during and especially afterwords.  This kept me off the bad roads and allowed me to go some back roads to get where I worked. Thanks

Our beautiful soon to be Vice President Sarah Palin is the best future leader for this nation, not Senator Barak Obama.  Our beautiful soon to be Vice President Sarah Palin is also would be better at leading our nation in the future after a McCain Presidency than Senator Barak Obama would be in leading our nation in the future starting in January 2009. There are great reasons our  soon to be Vice President Sarah Palin would be a better future leader than Senator Barak Obama. The greatest reason for our  soon to be Vice President Sarah Palin's is ideology. Our  soon to be Vice President Sarah Palin is conservative in that she is pro life, marriage, guns, low taxes, low government spending, small government, unintrosive government, traditional and judeo Christian values, Bible reading and prayer in our public schools, and military spending. Senator Barak Obama is a liberal who is anti every thing that I have described that our  soon to be Vice President Sarah Palin is pro about or for. A second reason that our  soon to be Vice President Sarah Palin is superior is because of experience. As a governor she has two years of executive administrative governing experience that Senator Barak Obama does not have. A final reason that our  soon to be Vice President Sarah Palin is superior is because of political accomplishments. When our soon to be  Vice President Sarah Palin came to office she accomplished 3 major things which are as follows: she showed great leadership in the 3 following areas: government reform, the state budget and the economy, and wise use of natural resources. She reformed government by standing up to the big oil companies by breaking up the monopoly on power and resources. She insisted on competition and basic fairness which ended the control that the oil companies had on the state, and thereby returning control of the state back to the people. She also stood up to the special interest and lobbyist, and produced major ethics reform. She lead well in the state budget by generating a surplus which came about by vetoing a half billion dollars of wasteful spending, ending the abuses of earmark spending by congress, and by getting rid of the private jet, the chef, and the chuffer. Economically under her leadership she brought about the largest private-sector infrastructure project in North American history. She also suspended the state fuel tax, and when oil and gas prices went up dramatically, and filled up the state treasury, she sent a large share of that revenue back where it belonged - directly to the people of Alaska . On natural resources she has shown great leadership by beginning a nearly forty billion dollar natural gas pipeline to help lead America to energy independence. When the last section of the pipeline is laid and its valves are opened, will lead America one step farther away from dependence on dangerous foreign powers that do not have our interests at heart. Senator Barak Obama has done nothing, so please vote John McCain for President and give to our beautiful soon to be Vice President Sarah Palin the opportunity that she deserves leading the nation into the future after a John McCain presidency. When our soon to be Vice President does lead the nation as President after a John McCain presidency, she will be the greatest President that we have ever had. Finally she is smarter than Senator Barak Obama

Thank You
